Three succumbed to a short illness on August 24. Bred, born and raised on the ranch, he was our last performing son of Pink Rey (with the exception of 24 year old Titan Rey who occasionally runs barrels and chases steers). In his illustrious barrel racing career, Three earned in excess of $200,000.00, mostly in rodeos. He carried Laura Lee to the International Professional Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City, OK twice, being a money winner there, won the Northeast Regional Finals of the International Professional Rodeo Association two times, and 4 times was in the top 20 of the International Rodeo Finals year end standings.
1999 found him taking her to become the American Professional Rodeo Barrel Racing Champion AS WELL AS the 1999 American Finals Rodeo Champion (Average winner)
In 2003 he was in the Penn Ohio Barrel Racing Association top 5 Open & won Champion Adult for Laura Lee.
Up until the time of his illness Three was in top form winning money at rodeos and jackpots.
In his career, he won numerous saddles and trophy buckles. A little known fact about Three is that he was also a good heading horse, having being used by Bill prior to Laura Lee's career with him. Bill and Joan turned Three's reins over to daughter Laura Lee many years ago so she could pursue her barrel racing career. They had a good life together. Three became the "special" horse of Laura Lee's, not only for his performance, but for the relationship they enjoyed together. He was "the horse" for her. To say his loss will be felt for some time is a gross understatement. He will never be forgotten. |
